Who we are
Our story
|
|
The Faculty of Economics, officially established in the Academic Year 1993/4, goes back to the Degree Course in Economics and Commerce which was started up the previous year at the Faculty of Political Sciences. This meant that innovative cultural programmes could be set up supported by the tradition of learning and organizational know-how belonging to an almost century-old pluri-faculty university like Milan's Università degli Studi. In 1997, a second university pole was set up in the Bicocca area, and was then spun off to become the city’s second state university the following year. The Faculty of Economics was absorbed into this structure.

In 1997, a second university pole was set up in the Bicocca area, and was then spun off to become the city’s second state university the following year. The Faculty of Economics was absorbed into this structure.
Becoming part of a new university gave the Faculty the chance to access cutting-edge structures as well as organise numerous student services. During the academic year 2000/2001 new degree programmes were then set up in line with the University Reform, with the gradual activation of both three-year and specialist degree courses.

The four laboratories contain about 300 stations, which all of the Faculty's students are free to use without limits of time or resources, whenever the daily lessons or practice sessions are not taking place. Technically the laboratories are set up in a client/server rapport. Students have a home page on the server, which allows them to move freely from the station they are using. All the stations are linked to the Internet. Security is guaranteed by a proxy capable of filtering communications with appropriate policies. All the most important software for economics and language learning (English, French, German and Spanish) is available. There is also a Bloomberg station for the analysis in real time of stock markets and exchange prices. At the moment there are six technicians guaranteeing the smooth running of the laboratories and all the student services.
For further information on the degree courses see the detailed descriptions and regulations below ( both text and tables).
